Technical Note : iPhone and iPad Dialup User IPSec VPN sample configuration for FortiOS v4.0 MR3
Products
FortiGate

Description

This article provides a sample IPSec VPN configuration for use with iPhone and iPad.  The configuration is for FortiOS v4.0 MR3 and differs from the configuration that is required for previous firmware versions.

The related article provides a configuration guide for earlier firmware versions.

Scope
This example is intended for a dial-up VPN network that requires connections from iPhone or iPad clients.
Solution
This example is intended for a dial-up VPN network that requires connections from iPhone or iPad clients.

The following sample configuration has been tested and works correctly in FortiOS v4.0 MR3.

It should be noted that the VPN is configured as route-based, otherwise known as interface-based. The configuration requires a peer ID ("apple" in this case) as well as a user group. It is best to configure this VPN using the CLI as some of the required settings are not available in the web interface.

Setup a User, User Group, and Firewall Addresses:

config user local
   edit "test"
      set status enable
      set type password
      set passwd <password>
   next
end

config user group
   edit "apple"
      set group-type firewall
      set member "test"
      set authtimeout 0
   next
end

config firewall address
   edit "LAN"
      set associated-interface "switch"
      set type ipmask
      set subnet 10.1.1.0 255.255.255.0
   next

   edit "iPhoneVPNUsers"
      set associated-interface "Any"

Ever wanted to just do some quick edits on a photo you just took so that you could upload it to facebook or flickr, but didnt want to pay the money for the really nice ones?  Snapseed is free for only the next couple of days, and it is great!

The learning curve is not too bad but it will take a bit of practice but it does try to show you for each different thing.

Oh yes nice little Cracked screen on the 13" macbook air. No damage to the laptop, still factory plastic on the Laptop and box.  It had 3 boxes as you can see all with no damage. RMA has been ordered.  This would have had to come from the factory like this, I can see this being a shipping issue.

Jolios
Installing Joli OS 1.2, It knows that it is in VirtualBox.   Tried out the Chrome App but wanted to see what the full thing would be like.  The install is a simple linux install or liveCD.   Total time to install was about 10mins from start to finish.

Jolidesktop

Desktop with Chrome

Everything that I installed in the chrome app is installed on the OS when I login.  Very cloud like! For a netbook this thing will be great, can't see me using it on my MBP as a full OS right now, but you never know.

Fri, 04 Mar 2011 09:59:00 -0800 Upgrade to ubuntu 11.04 11.10 http://jdseven.com/upgrade-to-ubuntu-1104-1110 http://jdseven.com/upgrade-to-ubuntu-1104-1110

All you ubuntu freaks out there can now upgrade to the alpha release of ubuntu 11.04 – 11.10 would be the 2nd release i guess

press alt+f2-> type “update-manager -d” and click upgrade ! simple as pie (I don’t really know what that means)

You might not see the 11.04 upgrade if you are not already on 10.10 maverick meerkat.

I am not sure if it is 11.04 actually – cause canonical just released 10.10 which is not even a final release and when you click upgrade it shows “upgrading to ubuntu 10.10″ instead of 11.04 . i’ll try it tonight and let you guys know.

Update: Yes it is 11.04, I ran the upgrade through a terminal and it was extracting from natty narwhal archive. So it is 11.04.[natty narwhal is the weird code name for ubuntu 11.04, like every other ubuntu release has.]

Now all you guys asking Why upgrade to Ubuntu 10.10 ? Cause you get to upgrade to 11.04 ! lol

Ubuntu 11.04 is yet in alpha stage (unstable release), so this is not for the weak hearted and people who require anger management sessions! it might be frustrating at times as there are certain bugs (nothing major but).
You are probably gonna face problems using Ubuntu Tweak too so,
Once you install ubuntu 11.04 natty narwhal, you might face this problem- missing windows borders, title, close minimize maximize buttons. to fix this:
Open a terminal type “gconf-editor”
navigate to desktop>gnome>applications>window_manager and change the value of default from (I presume) /usr/bin/compiz to /usr/bin/metacity .

Or you can open synaptic package manager and reinstall compiz .Exit -logout -login and your good to go!

Have fun!

So today I set out to run exclusively on LinuxMint for the day. Fridays are normally slower so it is the best option for testing this on a work day.  Couple of issues popped up right off the bat, but for the most part its been very easy.

Problems so far:

-Using Exchange 2010 (Solved with using OWA and OWA Companion for Chrome)
-Remote Desktop into server and workstations (Solved with grdesktop)
-Control Fan Speeds for MacBook Pro (Solved with Forum info)
-Figure out shortcut keys “Lock Screen” (Solved with Forum info “ctrl+alt+l”) More updates to come, seems to be going well so far.

*Update:

-Blogging (Solved with Chrome + ScribeFire = Best Option for Linux)
-Office (Solved with Google Docs, could also do openoffice but, eh)

*Update2:

-So I made it, I cant do everything I would need on a normal day but for the most part it works nicely.

Just a quick Post on how great Chrome Sync is.  If you use a number of different PC/Macs like I do Chrome should be your browser.  Syncs all bookmarks, apps and extensions for you with out having to do anything other than setup sync with your gmail account.  Great for a dual boot mac, like my setup.
